Policy

One of the aims of the ACS is to help create the conditions in which cinematographers can thrive – both creatively and economically. This was one of the first wishes of the founders of the ACS over 50 years ago and has assumed even more importance in recent years with major changes across the Australian and international industry. As a result, an ACS Policy Committee was formally established in 2007 to continue and consolidate our work in this area.

We encourage all members of the ACS to contribute to ongoing debate on a whole range of issues – from the rights of DOPs to the balance between outsourcing and in-house production by government agencies. We’ll be adding policy papers or ideas for discussion to this site in a way that facilitates dialogue between all our members and helps us assess priorities.

Increasingly too we are aiming to work closely with other industry Guilds to reach agreement on policy decisions and on media statements wherever possible.

The ACS Policy Committee encourages all members to be active on the policy issues that will determine the future of cinematographers in Australia and beyond and, wherever possible, to work with us to create a united viewpoint for all our members.
