The shadowcatchers

Do you have a great production still featuring an Australian cinematographer at work? If so, the ACS would like to consider it for inclusion in our 50th Anniversary publication, The Shadowcatchers, an elegant coffee table book documenting the work of Australian Cinematographers from early days to the present.

We are looking for stills of cinematographers working on commercials, documentaries, television, features, shorts, animation and scientific and other specialised work. They should be great photos, with artistic merit, and plenty of mood or action. Other photographs, which may not make it into the book, would also be gladly received as a record of you and your work in Australian production and kept on the ACS Reference Data Base.

So that the book can really reflect the full range of work, we need you to dig out those photos by the end of April -- or better yet, RIGHT NOW -- and send us a copy. Don’t send any originals yet, just a jpeg (preferably) or a photocopy with – as best you can -- the following information:
• name and year of the production
• name of the cinematographer and others in the photo
• name of the person who took the still
• name and contact details (if you have them) of the copyright holder of the still - all copyright will need to be cleared

At this point, the project is unfunded and the only reward for selection will be unimmortalized in a beautifully-designed, inclusive and enduring record of our industry. All stills photographers will be credited where possible and the high quality of the photos will be matched by the thoughtfulness of the accompanying text. This will be written by film historian Martha Ansara, with support from the ACS Book Committee.
