2007 National Awards for Cinematography

The Australian Cinematographers Society’s 2007 National Awards for Cinematography was held last night in Adelaide. The Gala event attracted more than 200 cinematographers from around the country to see the best of the best awarded in their craft.

Guest of Honour was the incomparable Don McAlpine ACS who summed up the current change the industry in his keynote address. He left us with the quote “We old dogs will have to learn new tricks. This old dog will keep gnawing at the bone, as long as someone throws him one.”

The Milli Award for 2007 Australian Cinematographer of the year was awarded to NSW based Director of Photography David Gribble ACS for The Worlds Fastest Indian.

Awards were presented in all categories of cinematography; including Student, News, Television, Commercials, shorts and cinema.

The International Award for Cinematography was awarded to Mexican filmmaker Emmanuel Lubezki AMC ASC for Children of Men

Ben Allan ACS from NSW is the winner of the 2007 Ross Wood Memorial Award for development of version 2 of his user friendly grading system called 'thegradingsweet'

In its 10th year, Keith Wagstaff ACS was the 43rd cinematographer to be inducted into the ACS Hall of Fame

In 2008 the National Awards for Cinematography will be held in Sydney, as part of our 50th anniversary Celebrations in May.
