ACS seeks production stills
Do you have a great production still featuring an Australian cinematographer? If so, the Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS) would like to consider it for inclusion in its 50th Anniversary publication, The Shadowcatchers, an elegant coffee table book documenting the work of Australian Cinematographers from early days to the present.
50 years of ABC footage now searchable online
The ABC is pleased to announce the launch of TARA Online, an online database providing content users access to thousands of hours of footage recorded over the past 50 years by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).

2006 AFI Winners

Melbourne - 7 December 2006

The L'Oréal Paris 2006 AFI Awards were announced over two gala nights at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre on Wednesday 6th December and Thursday 7th December.

ACS Members picked up gongs in all both cinematography categories (Ian Jones & Jackie Farkas); as well as the International Awards for Excellence in Filmmaking (Dion Beebe ACS ASC), and Outstanding Achievement in Television Screen Craft (Joe Pickering)

Ian Jones ACS won Best Cinematography for Ten Canoes which also picked up Best Film (Julie Ryan & Rolf de Heer), Best Direction (Rolf de Heer & Peter Djigirr), Best Original Screenplay (Rolf de Heer), Best Editing  (Tania Nehme) and Best Sound (James Currie, Tom Heuzenroeder, Michael Bakaloff & Rory McGregor)

Jackie Farkas won Best Cinematography in a Documentary for Hunt Angels as well as Best Documentary (Sue Maslin) and the Visual Effects Award

Dion Beebe ACS ASC received the International Award for Excellence in Filmmaking for his work on Memoirs of a Geisha; and Joseph H. Pickering received the AFI Award for Outstanding Achievement in Television Screen Craft (Cinematography) - The Forest (ABC)

AFI CEO, James Hewison, was delighted with the success of both nights and said, 'This year's awards are testament not only to the depth of talent and imagination, but indeed the dynamism and optimism of TV & film in Australia. Cheers to the winners & nominees - bring on 2007!'
