AFI Awards 2005 call for entries

The Australian Film Institute is calling for Feature Film, Television, Documentary, Short Fiction and Short Animation entries for the 47th AFI Awards. Entries are now open announced General Manager Geoffrey Williams today.

“2005 looks set to be a more interesting year for Australian film, as a new wave of films reflecting the complexity of the times we live in and the sophistication of our filmmaking, come to our cinemas,” says Williams. “This engaging and complex range of Australian stories hitting our screens indicate the beginning of an up-turn in the industry, and makes this a very exciting time to be joining Australia’s leading cinema culture organisation.”

The AFI Awards are the Australian Film and Television Industry's longest running and most prestigious awards ceremony. Now in their 47th year, the AFI Awards offer a night of glamour and style, while focusing both industry and public attention on the best in Australian film and television productions.

Recognised internationally, the AFI Awards are the premier event of Australian film culture, acknowledging excellence in a broad range of categories that cover Feature Film, Television, Documentary, Short Fiction and Short Animation.

Entry Deadlines for the 2005 AFI Awards are as follows:

* Documentary Entries Close: Tuesday 14 June 2005

* Short Fiction & Short Animation Entries Close: Tuesday 14 June 2005

* Feature Film Entries Close: Friday 8 July 2005 (paper deadline); Friday 29 July 2005 (materials deadline)

* Television Entries Close: Friday 15 July 2005


The AFI Awards 2005 Entry Rule Book, along with this year’s entry forms are available online at www.afi.org.au or potential entrants can contact Awards Coordinator Robyn Young on (03) 9696 1844 or via email on ryoung@afi.org.au

Non-feature nominations will be announced in late August, with feature film and television nominations announced in Sydney in early October. Winners from all categories will be announced at the 47th AFI Awards, to be held in Melbourne in early November.
