AFTRS: Jan Kenny ACS Reappointed as Head of Cinematography

Sydney - 7 August 2003

The Australian Film Television and Radio School [AFTRS] is pleased to announce the reappointment of Jan Kenny ACS as Head of Cinematography.

Kenny has 36 years experience in the film industry.  In 1985 she became the first woman to shoot a feature in Australia with the film Fran, and in 1986 she was the first woman to be accredited by the Australian Cinematographers Society.

Since starting at AFTRS in 1997, Kenny’s contribution to the School has been invaluable and her reputation both nationally and internationally has continued to grow.  Not only has she strengthened the School’s relationships with major sponsors, including Kodak, Atlab, The Lab and Panavision, but she has attracted worldclass guest lecturers such as John Seale ACS ASC, Russell Boyd ACS and Andrew Lesnie ACS, and taught in Vietnam and New Zealand on behalf of the School.

Jan Kenny added: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to continue my contribution to the development of new young talent at AFTRS, as Head of Cinematography.

Australian cinematographers have really made a mark on the international arena over the past few years, several of them being graduates of the Cinematography Department of AFTRS.  A high benchmark has been set, and our challenge is to continue to reach for it, preparing our students to exceed their potential.”
