The Australian Cinematographers Society Awards for Cinematography are one of the core functions of the ACS and a highlight on the ACS calendar.

The ACS awards system is a National system, with awards representing members from all States and Territories. They are held annually in September to November. Entrants can only submit entries into the State & Territory branch awards of which they are a financial member. Entries open August 1st (07:00) and close August 21st (23:59) local times.

2023 ACS State and Territory Gold winners will progress through to the 2024 ACS National Awards for Cinematography, to be held on Saturday May 4 in Brisbane.

In each of the State and Territory Awards, up to three Gold, two Silver and/or one Bronze award may be presented in each category (*excluding CineKids and Student) at the discretion of the judging panel. The judging panel may choose not to give awards in any category where the entries received are considered not to be of a high enough standard.

*(CineKids are eligible for one Gold and one Encouragement Award. Students are eligible for one Gold, one Silver and one Bronze Award).

A panel of 5 ACS Accredited members judge for each host state and at least two of the panel members are not from the host state.

ACS member Gold winners from each State and Territory Awards automatically progress to the National Awards for Cinematography, which are held in April/May the following year in a capital city (on a rotational basis).
