2004 Inductees
Each of the inductees have during their various times contributed enormously to support of the Society.
This year 4 cinematographers have been chosen, the late Arthur Hansen ACS, Daryl Binning ACS, Rob Copping ACS, and Jan Kenny ACS.
ARTHUR HANSEN ACS was an original member of the Society, going backto 1958. He served on early committees and he was a dedicated cinematographer of the early years. He worked as a laboratory technician to learn his craft with some of his first work being on the title board and the optical printer. He later years he was respected for his special effects on several feature films including "Into the Strait" and "AlwaysAnother Dawn".
He was the Director of Photography on many documentaries including a number of episodes of "Walkabout" produced by Charles Chauvel. He was born in 1905 and died in 1994 just prior to his ninetieth birthday. The Society had the pleasure of entertaining his granddaughter Leah McKenzie from Sydney who accepted the Induction Certificate at the National Awards.
DARYL BINNING ACS As well as his role over many years as a cinematographer in Papua New Guinea and Australia Daryl was a driving force in the early days of our Society. He was responsible for the forming of the West Australian Branch in 1968, been the State President for some time and has continued to support the Society over many years.
ROB COPPING ACS was an early member of the Society and has played a major role in the organisation and running of the Victorian Branch. Rob is well known for his feature film cinematography particularly the films he made with Tim Burstall and his studio Bilcock and Copping is engraved in the Victorian film history.
JAN KENNY ACS has been a mentor to many thankful students under herguidance as Head of Cinematography at the Australian Film Television and Radio School. As a cinematographer and documentaries. It was for her work as a Director of Photography that in 1968 Jan was awarded her Accreditation by her peers. Jan has led in many ways in her field, was the first woman to be awarded Accreditation by our Society and tonight will be the first to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
