2005 Inductees

JOHN BOWRING ACS

John’s career as a cinematographer has been spread over more than 30 years, with many Australian and International Awards for his work, John’s career expands from projecting movies at drive-ins and assisting news film crews at both Channels 7 and 0 during the day, later joining GTV 9 as a news film editor and later a cinematographer. He has had an extensive film career working for most Australian commercial broadcasters covering many important news events, countless commercials and documentaries. In 1975 John started his own successful film supply company Lemac and through his company John is most supportive of the Society arranging technical evenings in most States. John’s contribution to the Society is enormously appreciated.

John was accredited by the Society in 1990 and holds Accreditation Certificate No. 196.

He was made a Life Member in 1998.

He is currently Vice President of the Victorian Branch.

GEOFF BURTON ACS

Geoff began his professional career at the ABC in 1963. His career in Cinematography flourished. He films both in Australia and Internationally.

Early in his career he worked in Britain for the BBC and later freelanced overseas. On returning to Australia as a Director of Photography he filmed over 40 feature films both in Australia and the United States. Geoff has passed on his knowledge of cinematography to younger filmmakers and in the early 80s was Head of Cinematography at the Australian Film Television and Radio School. He has won many Awards for Cinematography both Internationally and in Australia.

He was named the Cinematography of the Year in 1978 and awarded the Milli for his cinematography on the film “Storm Boy”.

Geoff is an Accredited Member of the Society and holds Certificate No. 106.

RON WINDON ACS

Ron has served on many committees of the Society and is a past Federal President of the Society. During his term in office in 1970 he established the format of to-day’s Awards system. Since then he has maintained a strong interest and support for the Society. Ron’s father Fred Windon was a much loved and well respected Chief Electrician at Cinesound. With the advent of television in 1956 Ron joined Cinesound in the Lighting Department, he became a cinematographer at Movietone News and later director/cameraman at Eric Porter Productions. This led him to establish Ron Windon Productions, the successful producer of many commercials and documentaries both nationally and internationally. Ron has won many Awards over the years for his beautiful cinematography.

Ron was accredited by the Australian Cinematographers Society in 1967 and holds Accreditation Certificate No. 70.

Although this has nothing to do with Ron being inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Society he has fathered several sons who are following in his footsteps as successful cinematographers.
